Portland Photographer Kim Campbell Honored by American Photo Magazine
Campbell’s Portraiture Featured in Magazine’s Images of the Year Collection for Second Consecutive Year

PORTLAND, OR – December 29, 2009 – Portraits by Sellwood photographer Kim Campbell have once again been selected for inclusion in American Photo Magazine’s annual Images of the Year collection. Campbell’s work was featured in the “Personal Work” category in both 2008 and 2009.

This year, Campbell’s portraits—a series of 10 photographs of young girls from the Portland metropolitan area—were chosen from over four thousand entries from around the globe.

Entries were judged by four distinguished names in the field of photography: LA photographer Mark Edward Harris, Janice Lipzin Director of Visual Arts and Education at the Banana Factory, Photographer and Educator with Nik software Tony Corbell and Paula Tognarelli Executive Director and Curator of Griffin Museum of Photography, in Boston.

“I am thrilled by this enthusiastic response to imagery from my El Corazón series. El Corazón is a creative collaboration between photographer and child, which produces evocative imagery that makes strong statements both symbolically and artistically,” says Campbell.

Adds husband and business partner Francisco Salgado, “It’s a well-deserved honor for these extraordinary images. Kim’s El Corazón series creates something mystical, dreamy, and surreal through her combination of intriguing objects and subjects. The work takes viewers to a deeper place and should be shared with the world.”

Campbell finds herself in esteemed company with this repeat recognition. Past honorable mention winners include world-renown photographers such as George Steinmetz, Howard Schatz, Timothy Greenfield-Sanders and Annie Leibovitz.

Lisa Martel of Portland’s Blue Sky Gallery comments, “I was so pleased to see Campbell’s playful and iconic portraits gracing the pages of the most recent issue of American Photo Magazine. American Photo is one of the photo world’s leading photography publications, so it is thrilling to see the work of a local artist in the company of so many world-class photographers.”

Campbell’s award-winning photos can be viewed online here.
